President Gotabaya Rajapaksa on Thursday inspected the organic fertiliser packaging centres run by the Land Reforms Commission (LRC) at Oyamaduwa and Senanayake Mawatha in Anuradhapura.
The LRC produces organic fertiliser at 35 centres in the North Central Province using Water Hyacinth (Japan Jabara), Gliricidia (Albeesiya), poultry manure, dried manure and Eppawala rock phosphate are used as raw material.
LRC expects to produce 50,000 metric tons of organic fertiliser for the Maha season.
Organic fertiliser packaged at six centres at Oyamaduwa, Senanayake Mawatha, Padaviya, Mahailluppallama, Eppawala and Thalawa, in Anuradhapura is handed over to the Commercial Fertiliser Company (CFC) for distribution. CFC then distributes organic fertiliser to the farming community through the Agrarian Services Department.
One metric ton of this organic manure can be applied per hectare of paddy land. Farmers will also have the opportunity to view the production activities and quality of fertilisers at the packaging centres or production centres.
The President inspected the organic fertiliser packaging centres at Oyamaduwa and Senanayake Mawatha and inspected the condition of the manufactured fertilisers. Minister S.M. Chandrasena and several others accompanied the President.
