‘Power Woman’ all set for Sri Lanka’s largest Women’s Day celebration in 2020 at Avenra Garden Hotel tomorrow

She could be your mom, sister, girlfriend, fiancé, wife, boss, peer, friend, or some combination of the above. International Women’s Day is celebrated on 8 March with a mission to help forge a gender-equal world, and this year in 2020, the Rotary Club of Negombo has come up with the single largest International Women’s Day Celebration in the country titled ‘Power Woman’.

International Women’s Day campaign of 2020, #EachForEqual, draws attention to the difference individuals can make. “An equal world is an enabled world”, and every one of us can do our bit to bring about gender equality. It seeks to draw attention also to the idea that gender inequality isn’t a women’s issue, but an economic one – as gender equality is essential for economies and communities to thrive. So by celebrating women’s achievement, raising awareness of bias and calling out inequality, the Rotary Club of Negombo has come up with ‘Power Woman’ to be held at Avenra Garden Hotel Negombo on 8 March, attracting over 5,000 women, as the event to be for women whoever would like to celebrate their womanhood on this special day. 

Power Woman will bring the elegance of women’s achievements with the presence of some of the most outstanding women in their careers in the country including Mrs. World 2019 Caroline Jurie as the Chief Guest, Ramani Fernando and Gowri Rajan, Past District Governor of Rotary Sri Lanka, Kumudini Wickramasinghe, Judge of the Court of Appeal Sri Lanka Thilini De Silva, Udari Nadeeshani, Deemathi Periyapperuma, Senior Superintendent of Police, Sri Lankan Youth delegate to the UN 2019-2020 Gangulali De Silva as the guest.

Apart from these outstanding women leaders in the country, Power Woman will add more colour and entertainment and luxury by offering free salon services to the lady participants at the event including free hair settings, free make ups, free nail arts from Ramani Fernando Salons, eight fashion shows by Suriya Batik, Fashion Bug and Athula Mendis with many more brands that give back to the society. So if you’re in the market for a new purse, a pair of earrings, some makeup or new dress or saree, ‘Power Woman’ shopping festival that is being held in parallel to the key event will be the ideal place to be. 

While the Trade Fair will continue till midnight, the Rotary Club of Negombo has also planned to conduct a ‘Women’s Empowerment’ Seminar coupled with high tea in the Avenra Arena hall commencing at 3 p.m., a beauty care presentation by Mega Life Sciences, cookery demonstration by Sera, entrepreneurship and empowerment presentation by Oriflame and a Skin Care guidance presentation are few more things that will help the women in need, in the modern era to be pursuing what they wish. And why not shop with the brands that will take proceeds from the sale and put it towards a good cause of Rotary?

The Power Woman will also witness a donation of sewing machines to under privileged self-employed women and a performance by differently able children apart from an award ceremony that will recognise outstanding women performers. The main objective of ‘Power Woman’ is to recognise the working women and to empower them to play an important part in their places of employment and in society. 

The event will connect the women professionals of different fields to inspire and to take action towards inclusion of them in to our male dominated community, in more meaningful manner. ‘Power Woman’ is a full day program and will commence by 10 a.m. All women’s associations of leading girls schools in the area and the Rotary District which consists of 70 clubs island-wide will be taking part at the ‘Power Woman’ 2020.
