Lanka Dr. Indrajit Coomaraswamy, will conduct a discussion with former IMF Asia and Pacific Department Director Anoop Singh.
Successive Sri Lankan Governments' fiscal operations have been the main source of instability in the country's economy for decades. Macroeconomic stability will remain elusive unless the fiscal architecture is improved. Singh will seek to provide insights on how this can be achieved.
Singh held the post of Director, Asia and Pacific Department of the International Monetary Fund from November 2008-July 2013. He was also a former member of India’s 15th Finance Commission and is currently a Distinguished Fellow of the Centre for Social and Economic Progress (CSEP), India. Singh holds graduate and postgraduate degrees from the universities of Bombay, Cambridge, and the London School of Economics. His other appointments at the IMF have included: Director, Special Operations in the Office of the Managing Director; Senior Advisor, Policy Development and Review Department; Assistant Director, European Department; and IMF Resident Representative in Sri Lanka.
Previous webinars on the IMF of the ‘In Conversation’ series featured Dr. Nadeem ul Haque whose illustrious career with the fund spanned over two decades. Dr. Haque is currently the Vice Chancellor of Pakistan Institute of Development Economics
