Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday directed the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) to act diligently towards expediting construction of the new shopping complex project in Kollupitiya, encouraging investors.
He made this request addressing CMC party leaders meeting conducted at Temple Trees.
It is proposed to construct a new shopping complex at the present Kollupitiya market premises. The proposal of the project was unveiled to the Prime Minister in March this year. The project is being jointly implemented by the Urban Development Authority, the CMC, and a selected investor.
The Prime Minister stressed that project implementation issues should be discussed and resolved with the consent of the MPs and officials and the investors should be encouraged.
He further emphasised that new stalls should be reserved for all those who are currently holding businesses at the premises. Mayor of Colombo Rosy Senanayake, Deputy Mayor of Colombo Mohammed Iqbal, Colombo Municipal Council Leader of the Opposition M.H. Manzil and other council members, Secretary to the Prime Minister Gamini Senarath, Urban Development Authority Chairman Major General (Rtd.) Udaya Nanayakkara, Urban Development Authority Director General N.P.K. Ranaweera, State Ministry of Urban Development, Coast Conservation, Waste Disposal and Community Cleanliness Director General (Development) Eng. S.K.A.P. Devaraja and Municipal Commissioner Roshanie Dissanayake were present at yesterday’s meeting.
