Marlbo Trading Company, importers and distributors of electrical equipment and industrial tools, will be hosting a free technical training and awareness seminar for engineering students in order to provide knowledge on latest technologies and industrial standards which has been globally recognised.
The full-day seminar will be held on 23 June at Jaffna University of Kilinochchi in all three engineering divisions, namely, electrical, mechanical and civil engineering. Industrial experts will be coming all the way from the US and Europe jointly with Fluke Corporation, a renowned US brand, to instruct the technical training and awareness seminar in the north. Over 175 undergraduates are expected to participate from all three divisions.
In addition, Marlbo Trading earlier this week announced the midyear promotional sale for 2018 would begin this week from Thursday 7 June and run until 9 June with the best discounted rates at Marlbo Trading Head Office at Colombo 3.
Marlbo Trading Director M. Maniymuthu said as importers and distributors of electrical equipment and measuring tools, the company had conducted many workshops and seminars for industrial firms. It is holding the technical training and awareness seminar for engineering faculties in the north with the intention of providing undergraduates the required knowledge about industrial equipment, services and specific industrial standards such as American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), British (BSI), International Electro-technical Commission (IEC) and Institute of Electrical Electronics Engineers (IEEE), which will be discussed at the seminar.
“We will be conducting this program as a pilot project in the north. This is a new experience to us doing a seminar for the first time in university. The company is also in discussion to hold free seminars annually with other universities in Peradeniya, Ruhunu and Katubedda,” he added.
Explaining the reasons for selecting Jaffna as a pilot project Marlbo Trading Company CEO Neel Weedagama noted, “We thought we should do this seminar as a pilot project in the north; with positive feedback then we will plan to take this project forward annually in universities island-wide. We will also bring experts from overseas to give technical experience and knowledge about industrial standards for undergraduates which will be useful to build their future careers.”
The company has received two awards for its achievements in 2017 and 2018 from Fluke brands and is also an active member for many CSR projects. It recently supplied free laboratory measuring equipment and tools for nine schools and universities in Kandy District.
Marlbo has supplied electrical equipment and tools for the Electricity Board, Lanka Electricity Company (LECO) and Vocational Skill Development sectors. The equipment is imported from US, Europe, Canada, Malaysia, Thailand and Japan and the company offers free delivery for its products islandwide.
