International Trade and Development Strategies Minister Malik Samarawickrama Wednesday said the Government is determined to bring in the necessary economic reforms to facilitate trade and investment.
“We are not taking any steps back from our economic reform efforts – whether they are on the Doing Business Index, on trade policy or investment facilitation,” the Minister said addressing at the sixth edition of the ‘Top German Brands in Sri Lanka’ organised by the Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Sri Lanka (AHK Sri Lanka) with the support of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany yesterday. The Minister reiterated that Sri Lanka was committed to going ahead with much needed reforms, while being mindful of political realities. “Our focus lies in ensuring continued macroeconomic strength, managing the foreign debt situation and creating the right climate for foreign investment,” he pointed out.
He said Sri Lanka is determined to soldier on country’s macroeconomic fundamentals and remain strong and resilient despite the tragic Easter Sunday bombings in April this year.
The Minister also noted that Government continues to reorient Sri Lanka’s economy towards a more private sector and outward oriented economy.
