MAS Intimates, the largest division of Sri Lanka’s leading apparel manufacturer MAS Holdings Ltd., established an Intermediate Care Centre consisting of 450 beds which was opened recently.
The centre, situated in Polgahawela, was set up with the support of the Sri Lanka Army for the benefit and treatment of employees, their families and the general public in the North-Western Province, amidst the challenges faced due to the rapid spread of the virus across the region.
This Intermediate Care Centre, built at a cost of over Rs. 48 million, was declared open by North-Western Province Governor Raja Collure. MAS Intimates CEO Rajiv Dharmendra and Director of Production and Operations Ruwan Keragala along with Director – Manufacturing Rohan Daulagala were present at the occasion.
This Intermediate Care Centre, established under the supervision of North-Western Provincial Health Department Provincial Director Dr. M.K. Sampath Indika Kumara, has been set up with special facilities to accommodate the needs of critical COVID-19 patients.
The centre hosts a High Dependency Unit and special facilities that can accommodate up to 20 patients with high levels of infection. The centre has been structured keeping in mind the safety and convenience of doctors, with the capability to monitor oxygen levels of any patient as well as CCTV observation of patients.
The Polgahawela Regional Hospital provides necessary patient care services to the patients at the care centre, and the North-Western Provincial Health Services and the North-Western Provincial Cooperative Development Department act as key stakeholders.
Through this initiative, MAS Intimates, which prioritises the wellbeing of its members and the communities it operates in, hopes to create a healthier and safer environment for the people of the Kandy and Kurunegala districts.
