A webinar is scheduled by Veemansa Initiative to be held on Tuesday, 27 June from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on the proposed Kotelawala National Defence University (KNDU) Bill expected to be debated in Parliament early next month.
The panel of speakers of this session are Veemansa Director and University of Peradeniya former Professor of Sociology Dr. Sisira Pinnawala, LIRNEasia Senior Research Fellow Dr. Sujatha Gamage, and University of Sri Jayewardenepura Senior Lecturer Dr. Anil Jayantha Fernando. The webinar will be chaired and moderated by University of Colombo Professor of Economics Dr. Sirimal Abeyratna. This session which is the third of a series of webinars organised by Veemansa Initiative will be hosted by Veemansa Initiative Director Deepthi Perera.
The webinar will focus on (1) the qualitative changes to-date of Sri Lankan universities (2) Pros and cons of KNDU Bill, especially as an initial step to progressive reforms or commodification of education and (3) a departure from the current isolation and stagnation.
The speakers at this bilingual webinar will present their views in both Sinhala and English, and the participants too will be encouraged to raise their issues accordingly.
