The much-awaited IEEE Techno Meetup, the series of meetups organised for tech-enthusiasts, industry professionals and undergraduates, is back for the third time.
The first IEEE Techno Meetup of the year, under the theme Industry 4.0., was held successfully on 26 June. Asanga Ranasinghe and Dino Corera were present as guest speakers to explain the revolutions happening in the industry and what the future holds.
IEEE Techno Meetup is organised by the IEEE Sri Lanka Section Students Activity Committee to specifically enlighten undergraduates about latest technologies, trends in the industry and society. This initiative started in 2017 and has been conducted successfully for three consecutive years.
IEEE Techno Meetup 2017 ended up as a huge success. In appreciation for its contribution, IEEE Techno Meetup 2017 was awarded the ‘Best Industry Collaborative Project’ at the IEEE Sri Lanka Section Student/YP/WIE Congress Awards Night 2017. Following the success of 2017, IEEE Techno Meetup continued in 2018 and up to four meetups were organised.
Continuing the success of the past years, IEEE Techno Meetup 2019 creates a platform for professionals and tech enthusiasts to get together, in order to share their knowledge about latest technologies and societal trends.
Asanga and Dino were able to add value to this great platform by unpacking some key areas under Industry 4.0.
Asanga has over 15 years of experience in the international development sector. He is the Founder and Executive Director of Stampede SDGs Tech Accelerator, which was formed to prevent future inequality by using technology to achieve the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals).
In the first session, Asanga critically presented ‘Digital Transformation taking place in the Industry and the Realisation of the Concept of Smart Factories,’ with its impact on human society. He closed the session by discussing ‘The Big Deal for Cybersecurity,’ where he presented examples from the EU and Denmark.
Dino Corera was the former Channel Head for 99.2 TNL Radio and is the Co-Founder of the popular 'Blok & Dino', while currently being the CEO of Layup. Dino highlighted the ‘Current Front-Runners and the Influence on the Startup Market,’ where he shared his personal experience and tips for success. He also presented useful tools that can be used by startups.
