The Harangalla Tea Factory achieved all-time record prices of Rs. 1,350 and Rs. 1,450 for OP1 and BOP1 grades respectively in the Western Medium Grown category at the weekly tea Auctions held on 30 January. These lines of tea were marketed by M/s. Forbes & Walker Tea Brokers Ltd.
Situated in the Kotmale agro-climatic sub district at an elevation of 1,163 metres, Harangalla Tea Factory produces 1,500,000 kilos of made tea per annum, and is ISO 22000 and HACCP certified.
Harangalla Estate was owned by Rosehaugh Ceylon Tea Company Ltd. from 1920 to 1972 and operated by the Janatha Estate Development Board from 1975 to 1987. It was leased to the Harangalla Plantation Ltd. in August 2008, which has since modernised its machinery to achieve the desired results.
