The Green Energy Champion competition, jointly launched by the German Federal Office with the Ministry of Power, Energy and Business Development of Sri Lanka, and the project implementing partners, GIZ and the Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority has extended the deadline for submission of proposals to Wednesday 15 May.
The competition, open to private sector businesses including small and medium enterprises, public sector institutions, and civil society groups including NGOs, CBOs and student groups, seeking funding for their innovative projects in renewable energy or energy efficiency has already drawn great interest and numerous entries and the organisers have extended the deadline to accommodate participants, who may have had their work disrupted, in putting together their proposals.
Three grand prizes of Rs. 4 million in each category, to cover the required technical equipment and training, awaits the winners to implement their green energy innovations as proposed.
During the past few months, GIZ offered writing workshops together through their partner Janathakshan in all nine provinces to help participants in proposal writing. The three most promising proposals selected in each category will be invited to a further workshop to help them fine-tune their project ideas under professional guidance. A jury panel from the German Embassy, the Sri Lankan Sustainable Energy Authority, GIZ and other experts will select the best project ideas of each category.
Entry forms can be downloaded from the competition website http://greenenergychampion.lk and submitted in Sinhala, Tamil or English.
