As the lockdown is eased, the economy needs to rebound very fast and exports are going to be a key factor for the country to progress, said SLAMERP Chairman Ravi Dadlani. He also mentioned that while the COVID challenges are huge, we need to revive the economy and open the key sectors.
SLAMERP was appreciative that the Finance Ministry has taken immediate steps to call the export sector for consultations to understand the current situation of different sectors and what short-, medium- and long-term remedies can be taken.
SLAMERP as the third biggest export industry as value-added high-quality rubber products, is confident the targeted export revenue of $ 1 billion for 2021 could be achieved. The chairman said that with the opening of global markets, demand for rubber products including tyres and PPEs such as rubber gloves has been growing. He pointed out that the industry met the finance minister at Temple Trees and that the membership of the SLAMERP brought about issues the industry is currently facing and made proposals to the Government to facilitate the export trade in general and with issues faced by the rubber exporters.
SLAMERP as an association appreciates the acceptance of the Government to resolve issues as well as agreeing to look at speedy solutions to support the export industry at a time the country is having foreign exchange challenges. The membership of SLAMERP expects the finance minister to swiftly resolve matters pertaining to the export sector.
