German market leader Würth concludes Training of the Trainers program

• Hands over equipment to VTA as part of Technipreneurs Lanka project

Within the framework of the Rs. 60 million Technipreneurs Lanka PPP (Public Private Partnership), which is co-funded by Würth Lanka and German Development Bank DEG/KfW, Country Manager of Würth Lanka, Technipreneurs Lanka completed its Training of the Trainers program to train 20 VTA trainers on the Technipreneurs course. 

The training was conducted by Lasantha Abeywickrama and Dr. Chamara Bandara at the K-Tec Vocational Training Center in Orugoddawatte from 25 June to 3 July. The certificate handover for the trainers who participated in Training of the Trainers program will be next in the agenda for the program. 

Training of the Trainers is part of Technipreneurs Lanka’s sustainability plan to ensure Technipreneurs training is continued with the Vocational Training Authority of Sri Lanka after the pilot project is completed. 

In September 2020, Rohan Amirthiah, in presence of Josef Tschoep, Head of Vocational Training at the Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Sri Lanka (AHK Sri Lanka), handed over technical training equipment, such as tools but also computer hardware, to Damitha Wickramasinghe, Chairman of the Vocational Training Authority (VTA). 

Amirthiah thanked the VTA for their continued support in the Technipreneurs Project. He further noted that he was impressed with the VTA’s island-wide coverage of institutes and noted that VTA is successfully catering to Sri Lanka’s need of the hour: vocational training. Amirthiah also thanked AHK Sri Lanka for partnering up for the certification of the Technipreneurs. He further stated the project was progressing well and plans were underway to start the second batch shortly. 

During the event, Josef Tschoep, on behalf of Chief Delegate of German Industry and Commerce in Sri Lanka, Andreas Hergenroether, emphasised on the importance of industry-driven, practical-oriented vocational training and upskilling. 

He expressed his pleasure to be certification partner for the project, thereby providing quality assurance of German TVET-based standards, and welcomed prospective co-operations between AHK Sri Lanka, the industry and other stakeholders such as VTA, in the field of vocational training.

Technipreneurs Lanka is a pilot project to uplift electricians, plumbers, and air condition technicians and thereby create skilled and economically independent craftsmen for Sri Lanka. The project-aim is to recognize the importance and to increase the professionalism and entrepreneurship of craftsmen.
