Minister Daya Gamage recently met Stefan-Radu Oprea, Minister for Business Environment, Commerce and Entrepreneurship in Romania, at his mission. This mission was facilitated by the Dr. Victor Chiujdea, Ambassador of Romanian Embassy in Sri Lanka.
The Minister suggested developing a logistics export hub in Romania with the support of the Romanian Government. Romania having free trade with other EU countries and Sri Lanka has enormous opportunities to penetrate the European market.
The suggestion made by Gamage was accepted by Oprea, who added his positive comments of providing facilities for Sri Lankan exporters. Providing a comfort zone and financial and administration support for starting business in Romania are the main opportunities for Sri Lankan entrepreneurs at present.
Oprea added that the creation of a B2B relationship between the two countries would improve trade and more opportunities could be created by Sri Lankan businesses to engage with Romanian business people.
It was noted that investment opportunities should be created by both countries and the business environment is the key aspect for the entrepreneurs to go forward with confidence; the one-stop investor supporting centre in Romania can be the best place for Sri Lankan exporters to get this information.
Meanwhile, a fruitful meeting was held with Dr. Mihallonescu, Executive President of the National Association of Exporters and Importers of Romania. Industrialists and entrepreneurs from different sectors participated at this meeting to discuss the investment opportunities in Sri Lanka.
The Minister brief them on opportunities for foreign investors and support given by the new Government in Sri Lanka. Moreover, he invited a Romanian delegate to visit Sri Lanka and meet Sri Lankan investors to strengthen the trade relationship. The Ministry of Social Welfare and Primary Industry will facilitate this B2B meeting to improve trade between the two countries.
