Foreign Minister Ali Sabry met the Sri Lankan Business community in Bangladesh and the Bangladesh business professionals at a reception held at the official residence of Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner Prof. Sudharshan Seneviratne on 24 November.
At the short interactive session, the Minister discussed with the members of the Sri Lanka Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SLBCCI) about the potential for further development of bilateral investment, tourism and knowledge sharing between the two countries. The SLBCCI members briefed Minister Sabry of future bilateral trade initiatives that would benefit both countries.
As of now, Sri Lankan investments in Bangladesh are close to $ 2.5 billion, making it the third highest overseas investment venture while Sri Lanka is one of the largest investors in Bangladesh. Approximately 80 well reputed Sri Lankan business ventures are operating in Bangladesh. Over the years, skilled Sri Lankan professionals and technocrats have contributed towards enhancement of the Bangladesh economy
Sri Lankan and Bangladesh are commemorating 50 years of Diplomatic relations this year.
