The Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka (FCCISL) made history in Beijing, China recently by securing the first ever presidency of the newly formed Asia Pacific Trade Agreement-Chamber of Commerce and Industry (APTA-CCI), accredited by UNESCAP – Bangkok, Thailand.
FCCISL Director and Strategy Committee Chairman Dr. Rohitha Silva was nominated as president-designate for APTA-CCI by its member country chambers that met in China. APTA-CCI consists of federations and other leading chambers from Asia Pacific Trade Agreement (APTA) member countries Bangladesh, China, India, Korea, Laos, Mongolia and Sri Lanka.
The main objective of the APTA-CCI is to promote trade, investment and capacity development among APTA countries, with its headquarters soon to be established in Beijing, China.
Dr. Rohitha Silva comes with an entrepreneurial experience of 25 years and industrial experience of over 30 years. He is also a Board member of the Colombo Chamber of Commerce (CCC), Past President of the Young Lankan Entrepreneurs of Sri Lanka (COYLE) and Past President of the Sri Lanka Malaysia Business Council – Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (SLMBC) He also held several honorary positions, such as Brand Ambassador for Rotary International, and Vice Patron of the Mercantile Hockey Association. He holds a PhD in Business Administration.
Earlier this year, FCCISL took over the presidency of SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Islamabad, Pakistan. With the appointment of Dr. Rohitha Silva as president-designate of APTA-CCI, FCCISL expands its operation into both the South Asian and Asia Pacific regions.
