The EDEX Expo 2018, billed as Sri Lanka’s largest education exhibition and job fair, will be held in September to provide the widest range of options for higher education seekers.

The sixth annual EDEX Mid Year Expo and Job Fair, organised by the Royal College Union (RCU), will be held on 8 and 9 September at the Sri Lanka Exhibition and Convention Centre (SLECC).

The organisers said this year’s education platform would feature about 150 stalls occupied by 70 organisations, representing over 100 local and foreign universities and institutes. Higher education representatives from Germany, Hungary, Russia, Thailand, Japan and Australia are expected to be present along with additional local agents from a range of universities.

Speaking about the importance of EDEX Expo, EDEX Chairman Mahinda Galagedara said it is the largest and most comprehensive education and job exhibition which creates a platform for youth to seek local and international education opportunities under one roof.

The organisers also aim to generate a database of potential employees to offer jobs from established companies to assist people searching for work.

Highlighting special placements and spot admissions at EDEX Expo, Colombo Institute of Research and Psychology (CRIP) Director – Academic Affairs Dr. Darshana Perera said this year, the event will have a special booth titled ‘Change Makers’ that will offer scholarships to bright students.

“We will provide 119 scholarships worth Rs. 55 million for Sri Lankan and international students to pursue studies in several fields, including psychology, business, hospitality and management. CRIP has a different agenda as a private institution. The long-term goal is to develop as an academic and research institute. In two years, our vision is to have 50% paying students and the remainder as scholarship students,” Dr. Perera said.

Participants can also benefit from discounted course fees, meeting with professionals and interactive seminars offered by exhibitors. The sponsors for EDEX Expo 2018 are Colombo Institute of Research and Psychology, Mercury Institute, CINEC and Universal College Lanka (UCL).

The Expo is endorsed by the Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Higher Education and Cultural Affairs, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Labour and Trade Union Relations, Ministry of Skills Development and Vocational Training, Ministry of Mahaweli Development and Environment, and the International Labour Organisation.
