Trade Promoters Ltd. (TPL), Cummins’ long-established distributor in Sri Lanka in South-East Asia, has been appointed distributor for the Maldives, covering Cummins’ full product line of diesel and gas generator sets as well as diesel and gas engines.
Renowned for being customer-focused, TPL has been Cummins’ sole Sri Lankan distributor since 1992. TPL is headed up by Chairman Rohan Fernando who has been associated with the Cummins product since 1977 when he started working for the Cummins dealer in the UK.
TPL will provide sales, service and support in the Maldives for Cummins’ full product line, including generator sets – TPL is the largest supplier of diesel generators in Sri Lanka – and engines for marine, construction and industrial applications. The Maldives is a tropical nation in the Indian Ocean, lying 1000 km south-west of Sri Lanka, and is composed of 26 ring-shaped atolls made up of more than 1,000 coral islands.
Cummins’ engine line-up spans 2.8 to 95 litres (50 to 4,400 hp) while generator sets range from 10 kW to 3.75 MW.
“Our partnership with Cummins now spans 27 years which has enabled us to build trust with our customers and deliver technology and power solutions our customers can depend on,” said Rohan Fernando. “As a result, we are in a strong position to build on this success by taking full responsibility for the sales and service of Cummins products in the Maldives.”
TPL is already familiar with the Maldives, having previously installed Cummins generator sets at several resorts. The company is currently working on Cummins prime power generator installations at three new five-star hotels in the Maldives which are scheduled for completion by early 2020. TPL is also supplying generators to Fenaka Corporation, a government utility that ensures the Maldives’ island communities have a secure and reliable supply of electricity.
TPL was established in 1976 with four people working from a one-car garage by the beach in Colpetty (Colombo). Today the company has 250 employees. “We have two main assets – our dedicated staff who we are truly proud of, and our loyal customers,” said Rohan Fernando. Cummins diesel generators are the core of TPL’s business, and the company has provided power solutions for landmark buildings such as the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, World Trade Centre (Colombo), and Katunayake and Mattala international airports, as well as for hospitals, hotels, supermarkets, embassies, garment and manufacturing sectors, commercial and residential buildings.
Peter Jensen-Muir, Executive Managing Director for Cummins Asia Pacific, welcomed the TPL appointment. “TPL has an excellent track record as Cummins’ sole distributor in Sri Lanka, and we look forward to the company building a customer-focused business in the Maldives,” he said. “Importantly, TPL’s business practices align with Cummins’ core values and business ethics.”
