A panel discussion on the topic ‘Global Business Leadership & Challenges faced by Business Leaders’ was conducted by the University of Colombo with prominent panelists participating.
Dr. Rohantha Athukorala, Dr. Shamini Perera and Ajith Wickramarachchi shared valuable insights from a public, private and academic perspective which enlightened and motivated the audience in overcoming challenges by being prepared to adopt, adjust and accept change within a shorter period of time if they were to cherish in life.
Dr. Rohantha recalling his days with the public sector stated that it always provided a better satisfaction as you get the opportunity to serve the people. He said it was however important to work with the system by understanding each component of it by being honest and having good values. He further emphasised on the need to drive trade by building up entrepreneurial qualities and facing challenges fearlessly.
It is up to the authorities to set the floor right through proper implementation if people are to be benefitted, was the view point of Dr. Sharmini Perera. She further stated that although women were better in developing inspiration and adopting to a participative approach, focus and determination were two powerful tools which could break any barriers which would boost confidence levels through proper self-management practices.
Ajith Wickramarachchi, who has a vast experience in handling international markets, stated: “We are currently living in an era where power and money play an important role in every aspect. Therefore if business leaders are to overcome these challenges it is of utmost importance for them to understand by accommodating and catering to the different customer tastes, needs and cultures through relationship building.”
Nilu Madhusani from the University of Colombo moderated the webinar which was aired live through Facebook. The event witnessed participants from India, China, Russia, Australia, United Kingdom, Switzerland, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Maldives and Sri Lanka.
The event was organised by the 2019-21 MBA students batch specialising in the field of international business in their webinar series where they also held a separate session in early July on ‘Fostering Global Mindset and Cosmopolitanism in Expatriates’.
