The demand for shared work spaces is growing in large multiples, within the commercial office or real estate segment. In other words ‘co-working’ is growing in leaps and bound in double digits in year over year, opined Regus Country Manager India, Vice President Sales, South Asia Harsh Lambah, commenting on the presence of Regus as a co-working service provider in Sri Lanka.

According to Lambah, co-working was the largest industry in the world in the years 2017 and 2018. Whether customers are doing co-working format within their own conventional space or moving in with Regus or with other service providers, co-working has taken ‘everybody’s imagination’.
“Whether we are talking about fortune five-hundred companies or entrepreneurs of startups or small companies everybody sees advantages of moving into co-working format,” added Lambah.
The world of never-offline millennial has transported the concept of work place to a work ‘space’; where the idea of co-working has become a global phenomenon. Regus has built a network of work spaces in Sri Lanka that caters to the need of ‘space’ for the millennial workers, that is flexible and convenient with access to a premium business address at the least amount of cost.
Regus is the world’s largest provider of flexible workspace solutions, with customers including some of the most successful entrepreneurs, individuals and multi-billion dollar corporations. It has been present in Sri Lanka for almost seven years with seven centres spread across premium A grade business properties in the greater Colombo area.
Elaborating on Regus’s outlook on millennial needs, Lambah stated, “Regus being the market leader of co-working service providers in Sri Lanka, has adopted to the changing needs of the market, where the newer centres have a range of cutting edge services, with larger work-lounge areas as the customers walk-in, allowing them to sit anywhere and work anywhere. Regus offers open co-working, dedicated co-working, private office spaces as well as tea coffee amenities along with other professional services like photocopying, secretarial services and number of other services that maybe required by the customers. Also I have to state that we offer best available IT infrastructure for our customers, where they are ensured of data security and safety.”
Lambah also outlined that 40-50% of their clientele in Sri Lanka consists of global companies that are already operating in their global centres, and chosen Regus for their local presence, while 30-40% are small and medium Sri Lankan companies, and 5-10% are professionals or startups.
However, Regus foresees a large potential in Sri Lankan market in the future for shared work space, as the economy has opened up over the past few years with a whole new infrastructure being established in Sri Lanka. This is indicative of a large number of commercial office real estate being available in Sri Lanka the next three to four years. “Regus does see this as a positive impact and are firm on their potential to cater to those customers in future, where for small startups it makes perfect sense to use a co-working space to set-up their offices at a IWG/Regus workspace as it will enable them with convenience and flexibility, along with modern day work amenities,” added Harsh Lambah.
