A meeting between CPC Yunnan Provincial Committee Secretary and Standing Committee of People’s Congress of Yunnan Province Chairman Chen Hao and Minister of Development Strategies and International Trade Malik Samarawickrama was held on 11 November at the latter’s Ministry. The discussions were based on strengthening economic co-operation between Sri Lanka and China. Ambassador for People’s Republic of China in Sri Lanka Cheng Xueyuan, Ambassador for Sri Lanka in China Karunasena Kodithuwakku, Ministry of Development Strategies and International Trade (MODSIT) Secretary S.T. Kodikara, Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB) Chairperson Indira Malwatte, Sri Lanka Board of Investment (BOI) Chairman Mangala Yapa and other representatives of the Yunnan Province Government participated in the discussions.
Yunnan is the strongest among the 27 provinces of China with a GDP growth of 9.2% in 2019. Its delegation expressed their interest in extending economic co-operation with Sri Lanka in all possible aspects, drawing special attention towards the tourism, education and SME development sectors.
