In order to appreciate the committed service of officers of the Department of Census and Statistics (DCS), an appreciation ceremony was held on 8 June at the department’s auditorium.
Officers who have been working at the DCS for more than 30 years and government officers who have rendered valuable service in the department for more than 30 years of public service were honoured at the service appreciation ceremony.
The DCS provides timely and accurate data for formulating policies and preparing development plans by analysing the data collected through various surveys and censuses. With its long history as the key agency providing national official statistics, the department plays a significant role in national development.
The officers of the DCS are required to fulfil their duties even under difficult circumstances, including natural disasters and calamities, to compile statistics on demographic and socioeconomic conditions, public aspirations, etc.
Ministry of National Policies and Economic Affairs State Secretary Darshana Senanayake attended as the Chief Guest at the ceremony. Officers of the Ministry of National Policies and Economic Affairs, DCS Director General Dr. A.J. Satharasinghe and DCS staff graced the occasion.
