The Cabinet of Ministers at its meeting on Monday approved to revise the Air Navigation Fees for international flights flying over the Colombo Flight Information Region from 1 February.
Speaking at the post-Cabinet meeting media briefing yesterday Cabinet Co-Spokesman and Minister Bandula Gunawardena noted that Sri Lanka had not revised these charges for the past 37 years.
Air Navigation Fee relating to international flights flying over the Colombo Flight Information Region is levied by the Airports and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) Ltd., and has not been revised since 1985.
“In exchange for providing navigational assistance to aeroplanes flying over their territory and landing at airports, countries charge Air Navigation Fees on international airlines flying over,” Gunawardena said.
The proposal to this effect submitted by Ports, Shipping and Aviation Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
