The Computer Society of Sri Lanka (CSSL) became the first ICT professional body in South Asia to achieve the world renowned International Professional Practice Partnership (IP3) Accreditation.
IP3 is a global partnership to uplift and benchmark professionalism in the ICT profession. IP3 works to define international standards and create a global infrastructure that will encourage and support the development of both ICT practitioners and employer organisations in the developed and developing world. It does this through the creation of a worldwide set of professional certification schemes recognised as the hallmark of true ICT professionalism, delivered through independent national member societies and supported by development frameworks for both individuals and organisations.
IP3 Accreditation is a key milestone of CSSL’s journey since its inception in 1976. IP3 Accreditation is the highest level achievement in its endeavour to lift the professional standards after CSSL becoming a provisional signatory to the Seoul Accord in 2018, the global accreditation body for Computing Degrees.
“IP3 Accreditation was a key priority of CSSL’s 2021/2022 program and it is significant recognition of CSSL’s commitment to fostering professionalism and uplifting the professional standards amongst ICT practitioners in Sri Lanka. With this accreditation, the recognition for Sri Lankan IT professionals is boosted significantly across global markets. I am grateful to the CSSL team which tirelessly worked to achieve tough IP3 compliances with in the target timelines. We are also grateful for guidance received from IFIP and IP3 community to reach this historic milestone,” said CSSL President Damith Hettihewa.
Anthony Wong, the President of International Federation of Information Processing (IFIP) which is the global umbrella organisation for ICT professional bodies established under auspices of UN (UNESCO), issuing a message commented, “Congratulations to the Computer Society of Sri Lanka (CSSL) on the accreditation by IP3 www.ipthree.org of its ICT professional certification scheme and becoming the first country in South Asia to be accredited. We are proud of the hard work and dedication of CSSL and its members that have made this possible.”
IP3 Chairperson Moira de Roche issuing a statement mentioned, “Computer Society Sri Lanka (CSSL) was recommended for full accreditation of their Professional Member (MCSSL) and Associate Member (AMCSSL) schemes for a five-year period from 5 December 2022. This was unanimously approved by the IP3 board. I am pleased and very proud of CSSL for this achievement, and applaud the people involved for their single-mindedness in preparing for this over a relatively short period. On behalf of the IP3 board, I congratulate CSSL on this accomplishment.”
