The Ceylon National Chamber of Industries (CNCI), the pioneering chamber for industries in the country, has organised a full-day seminar under the theme ‘Essential Labour Laws with Recent and Proposed Amendments’. The seminar will be held on 30 October from 9 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. at Hotel Taj Samudra, Colombo.

CNCI Secretary-General Abeyratne Muthugala said that this important seminar has been organised in order to raise awareness of the essential areas of the Labour Laws provisioned in the Shop and Office Act, Wages Boards and other widely used Ordinances with their recent and proposed Amendments among managers and HR-related employees in organisations.

He further said that the Chamber CNCI has observed that many of the employees in managerial and supervisory grades in organisations need development and updates in the essential and practical areas of Labour Laws. “We know that the most important element in any organisation is its human resource. A healthy organisational culture made of a motivated staff and richly surrounded by strong interpersonal relations is the expectation of any organisation. There is a saying that every manager is an HR Manager as managers do need human skills. All his dealings with people in the organisation should be within the provisional frame of the Labour Laws. Based on the nature of organisations, we know that the Sri Lankan Labour Laws are governed by various Acts, Ordinances, etc.,” he added.

The seminar will be conducted by Department of Labour Chief Legal Officer and Labour Commissioner – Enforcement Milanga Weerakkody and Department of Labour Legal Officer K. G. Kumarasinghe, who are well-qualified trainers and have years of experience in the field.
