CIC Feed CEO Ajith Weerasinghe and SLSI Director General and CEO Dr. Siddhika Senaratne
Given the second wave of COVID-19 hitting the safe geographies like Beijing, Chennai and South Korea, Sri Lanka Standards Institution (SLSI) and Rotary stepped up its role in safeguarding the public from the COVID-19 virus by certifying the ‘COVID-19 Control Environment’ status to the first Sri Lankan owned group of companies, CIC Feeds Ltd.
Incidentally, this is the third company to get this certification with the first being the Swedish/Italian-owned Trellerborg Group, thereafter the UAE owner Al Futtaim entity: AMW, with CIC Feeds as the latest. “There are over one hundred and fifty companies that have applied and are in the process of being certified by SLSI,” said SLSI CEO Director General Dr. Siddhika Senaratne.
“Technically called: ‘COVID-19 Safety Management System Certification’, an idea mooted by Rotary was carried forward by SLSI and I am pleased to say that it practically has helped CIC Feeds improve the safety parameters. The certification also gives confidence for us to operate at the optimum efficient practicing, the proper protocols of social-distancing, hand-washing and wearing a mask,” said the CIC Feeds Managing Director Ajith Weerasinghe, who is also taking over as the Governor of Rotary Sri Lanka and Maldives from July. “We as a socially responsible company also ensure that the total value chain is protected from the lethal virus,” he said, ending his statement.
“As at today there are 10 million cases worldwide, of people (who have) contracted the COVID-19 virus, and around 0.5 million people have lost their lives. With the neighboring countries like India and Pakistan having an influx of cases and with Chennai having its second wave – we in Sri Lanka must be responsible to create a delicate balance between protecting people and minimising the social and economic damage to the country,” said Rotary Stop the Spread Project Director Dr. Rohantha Athukorala.
