The Colombo Fashion Week started yesterday with its main designer showcase filled with an atmosphere of great excitement and anticipation at the Hilton Colombo.
The majority of today’s local fashion designers are products of CFW, which began its journey in 2003. This year’s event showcased designs of immense creativity and innovation through fabrics and unique fashion pieces.
The main designer showcase commenced with a display of designs by U by Upeksha, highlighting the cafe culture, La’Sari incorporating the arrival of Spring, using the impression of all things fresh and vibrant, Amilani Perera whose designs were based on the reflection of Sri Lanka’s past through the use of geometric norms of the country’s national bird, the jungle fowl, and Meraki by Shandhala Rubero whose pieces were based on discovering the great outdoors.
The second session of the designer showcase displayed the designs of Jai by Aashki by Joyce Jayasinghe which captured the beauty of Africa based on her experiences, elegant pieces by Gihan Ediriweera bringing fairy tales to life and visually stunning and impactful designs by Aslam Hussein.
