The upcoming Sri Lanka Economic Summit 2021, is prepared to host a lineup of contemporary dialogues under this year’s theme ‘Springboard for revival: Opportunity to reset’. Day One of the event will commence with a session dedicated towards a focal topic on ‘Sri Lanka’s Opportunity to Reset in the New Global Norm’ on 6 December.
This session will emphasise on the pandemic which has changed the outlook for the global economy with the expectation for global GDP to return to its pre-COVID-19 level by the second half of 2022. Despite these economic expectations, most countries are still recovering from the new waves of the pandemic and dealing with different risk factors that could derail the recovery. In this aspect the session will explore expectation for economic support in developed and developing economies, demand/consumption in traditional export nations, movement of key commodities and food prices, future of global trade and supply chains and the role played by green financing. This will be discussed in the context of how Sri Lanka can leverage on some of these emerging opportunities and adjust to the new global normal.
The presenters and panellists at this plenary will feature international speaker Standard Chartered Bank Economist South Asia Saurav Anand and former Central Bank Governor Dr. Indrajit Coomaraswamy. World Bank Chief Economist South Asia Hans Timmer, Hemas Holdings PLC Group Chief Executive Officer Kasturi Chellaraja Wilson, John Keells Holdings Chairman Krishan Balendra and former Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute Chairman and Overseas Development Institute Trade Economic Expert/Senior Research Associate Dr. Ganeshan Wignaraja will join the panel discussion. The session will be moderated by Economist and Centre for a Smart Future Co-Founder Anushka Wijesinha.
