Trade Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardena instructed officials to refurbish and utilise the warehouse complex belonging to the Food Commissioners’ Department located in the Navakkuliya area in Jaffna.
The Minister made these remarks during a recent official visit to Jaffna, while inspecting the warehouse premises.
“This warehouse should be set up and utilised expeditiously to maintain the stocks required to provide essential goods without any shortage to the people of the Northern Province,” Gunawardena said.
He also believes that the low-cost imported rice stocks could be easily disbursed via the Lanka Sathosa retail network in the Northern Province.
“The low-cost rice imported by the Government can be transported to Jaffna by train, which can be easily distributed among the public thereafter via Sathosa retail network,” he added.
Minister Douglas Devananda, Jaffna District Parliamentarian and Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee Angajan Ramanathan were also present at the inspection visit.
