Ambassador Jayatilleka meets Russian Chamber of Commerce Representatives

Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka received representatives of the Russian Federation’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry on 1 July, including Committee for Economic Cooperation with Countries of Asia and Oceania and Business Council for Co-operation with Pakistan Deputy Chairman Sergey Vasiliev, Committee for Economic Cooperation with Countries of Asia and Oceania of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation Executive Secretary Vasiliy Vasiliev, EXPOTECHTOUR General Director Olga Khlybova, and Imperial Teas Ltd. Representative Sergey Gavrikov, to discuss the activities that the Committee has planned to enhance the bilateral trade relations between Russia and Sri Lanka.

Sergey Vasiliev, a veteran official with 30 years of experience at the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs before joining the CCI of Russia, said that the Committee is focusing on enhancing the bilateral trade relations with a few Asian countries including Sri Lanka. Therefore, as the first phase, the Committee is planning to send a business delegation from Russia to participate in the Sri Lanka Investment and Business Conclave 2019, which will be held in Colombo in September. Further, the Committee has prepared for implementation a one-year plan on enhancing the bilateral trade relations between the two countries.

Olga Khlybova explained more about the assistance EXPOTECHTOUR provides to the Russian business community. She mentioned they had more than 25 years’ experience in organising exhibitions, seminars, congresses and business meetings. She also spoke about her participation in international events organised in Sri Lanka, and the opportunities that Russian companies would find in its sphere of trade and investment. 

Ambassador Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka emphasised the importance the Russian business community’s participation in the Sri Lanka Investment and Business Conclave 2019 in September, which would reassure and motivate other countries after the Easter Sunday attacks in Sri Lanka. Jayatilleka also expressed the support of the Embassy of Sri Lanka for the Committee’s plans.
