On International Women’s Day, Allianz Lanka, one of Sri Lanka’s leading insurance companies, motivated and inspired several of its female employees at an event held at its Head Office.

Sriyani Kulawansa, former Olympian and acclaimed Sri Lankan hurdler, together with Dr. Piyanjali De Zoysa, a Clinical Psychologist, shared insights from their lives, the challenges and adversity they faced and overcame whilst always maintaining a positive mindset.

They further encouraged the audience to follow their dreams and not be restricted by the notions of society and reiterated the importance of a healthy work-life balance. The event was well attended by employees across its wide network of branches.  Furthermore, the company has established a female sales force, where women are provided continuous training and development thereby leading to opportunities to be empowered and are recognised for their outstanding achievements regularly. This program has proven to be a success as evidenced by the increasing number of female hires in an industry largely dominated by males.

“At Allianz we have always believed in being an equal opportunity employer. This has led to greater camaraderie and team spirit among our employees, which has helped us grow from strength to strength. As we now develop a culture where both people and performance matter, everyone should have the same sense of belonging and the opportunity to bring their whole selves to work. This International Women’s Day we took time to appreciate our female employees and the hard work they put in every single day,” said Allianz Insurance Lanka Ltd. Chief Human Resource Officer Ishani Senaweera.

In addition to its female sales force, Allianz Lanka established a Women in Leadership Employee Resource Group across the company. This program advocates for female leadership at Allianz Lanka, both within and outside the working environment. It also increases and fosters the active participation of women in all positions of leadership and promotes women’s economic and social justice issues, equality, and labour solidarity.

Further, the Women in Leadership program will serve as a resource to the organisation in support of female employee’s development and leadership and will align its action in support of the organisation’s diversity and inclusion goals.
