Colombo Additional Judge Chamath Madanayake on Tuesday (5) ordered the Dependants Farida Shabbir and Ali Asghar Yusuf Tyebkhan to their answers on or before 7 September in respect of the defamation case filed by well-reputed business entrepreneur Dr. Ali Asger Shabbir Gulamhusein.
Plaintiff Dr. Gulamhusein who is the Chairman of many companies of the Adam of Companies filed two separate defamation actions alleging the defendants seeking damages worth Rs. 10 billion and Rs. 500 million respectively.
The defamation actions are alleging that the duo made a false, scandalous and defamatory statement against the Plaintiff regarding a fall of a parapet wall at premises bearing assessment No. 264, Grandpass, Colombo 14 on 14 February.
As a result of the said unexpected incident, seven people died including his uncle Taher Gulamhusein.
In the widely-published statement made to the Coroner by the Defendant Farida Shabbir has stated that she suspects the Plaintiff with regard to her uncle’s death.
In the defamation action filed against the Defendant Ali Asghar Yusuf Tyebkhan, it was stated that he made a false, fabricated, scandalous and concocted complaint against the Plaintiff to Narahenpita Police Station without any substance alleging that the Plaintiff Dr. Gulamhusein had hired people to follow and conduct illegal surveillance on Idris Shabbir and Farida Shabbir. He has also said the Plaintiff had brought a gun.
