The Kuwait Fund has pledged a soft loan of $ 34 million as development assistance to Sri Lanka. During a meeting with Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake, a high level delegation of the aid agency currently undertaking an observation visit to the island has conveyed this to the Minister.
The meeting took place on 17 November at the Finance Ministry. Since 1975, the Kuwait Fund has supported a number of development projects in Sri Lanka.
The loan will mainly be utilised for the construction projects including highways, bridges and university buildings.
The high level delegation of the aid agency comprised Engineering Consultant of the Fund Ahmad Al Mujalham, Economic Consultant Dr. Osama Dabbagh and Legal Advisor Mohammad Al Omani. Secretary to the Ministry Dr. R.H.S. Samaratunga too was present at the meeting.
