The country will receive 15,000 doses of Sputnik V for the second dose of the vaccine next week, Pharmaceutical Production, Supply and Regulation State Minister Prof. Channa Jayasumana yesterday said.
According to him, confirmation had been received from the vaccine manufacturer of the 15,000 doses for the second jab as well as 50,000 doses of Sputnik V for the first jab that will arrive in the island next Friday.
“We received 264,000 AstraZeneca vaccine doses through the COVAX facility, which we used to vaccinate persons over the age of 60 in Colombo and suburbs. They have confirmed us of the supply of a further 264,000 doses of AstraZeneca for the second dose and we are likely to receive these during the first week of July,” Prof. Jayasumana said.
This is in addition to the 65,000 first doses of Sputnik V the country has received to date, which has been administered almost in full. According to the Epidemiology Unit, 64,986 persons had received the first dose of the vaccine by Thursday.
This includes the 2,283 persons who received the first dose of Sputnik V on Thursday.
On Thursday, 795 persons received the second dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine and 350,958 persons have received both doses of the vaccine to date. The first dose of AstraZeneca was administered to 925,242 persons.
The number to receive the first dose of Sinopharm on Thursday is 45,047 and a total of 891,630 persons have received the first dose of the vaccine.
The Epidemiology Unit states that 48,125 persons were vaccinated under the COVID-19 immunisation program on Thursday, bringing the country’s total population to receive the first dose to 1,881,858 and the second dose to 353,393.
