Ranjith Siyambalapitiya back as Deputy Speaker

MP Ranjith Siyambalapitiya was elected as the new Deputy Speaker, a post from which he resigned only a few days ago.

Notwithstanding his move, Siyambalapitiya was proposed to the Deputy Speaker post by MP Nimal Siripala de Silva and MP Prof. G.L. Peiris said the Government supports the move.

The main Opposition SJB proposed MP Imtiaz Bakeer Markar for the post.

In the ensuing poll, Siymabalapitiya secured 148 votes and Markar got 65. Three votes were rejected. Six MPs including Wimal Weerawansa were absent during the vote.
