Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation has introduced ‘Viru Abhiman,’ an insurance policy offered free of charge for persons in the healthcare sector involved in COVID-19-related measures.
According to a statement issued today by the Health and Indigenous Medical Services Ministry, in the event of the death of a healthcare worker, compensation of Rs. 1.5 million will be awarded to their family if they have children and Rs. 1 million if they do not have children or are unmarried.
The insurance policy covers healthcare professionals including Health Ministry officers, doctors, nurses, drivers, minor employees, public health inspectors, and regional health officers.
According to the statement, individuals need not make any payments or register with the insurance company and compensation will be awarded based on requests made to the Health Ministry.
