The validity of all mineral licenses issued by the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau that expired on 31 March will be valid until 30 April, according to a statement issued by the Bureau today. The decision was made taking into consideration the current situation in the country.
The licenses issues by the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau are categorised as exploration, mining, and trading and transport as per the Mines and Minerals Act No. 33 of 1992. Exploration licenses grant the holder the exclusive right to explore all authorised mineral categories, while mining licenses are further categorised as artisanal, industrial, and reserved minerals.
The trading license issued by the Bureau grants non-exclusive rights to purchase, store, process, and trade in minerals, while special authorisation may grant the license-holder the right to export minerals too. The transport license covers the transportation of minerals or mineral-bearing substances and is required by all exploration, mining, and trading licenses.
