The Trustees of the Kivulakade Jumma Mosque, Horowpathana were suspended with immediate effect for permitting and/or aiding and abetting the conduct of Jumma prayers on Friday 27 March in violation of the directive of the Wakfs Board to refrain from having any congregational activity until further notice, in view of the new coronavirus crisis.
This follows the arrest on Friday of 18 persons who had gone to pray at the mosque in violation of the Government ban on gathering in groups as well the directive of the Wakfs Board.
The Wakfs Board has appointed N. Mohammed Ashraff as a Special Trustee of the Mosque.
The letter informing of the new appointment and suspending the old Trustees was sent by Director of Muslim Mosques and Charitable Trusts or Wakfs and Director of Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs A.B.M. Ashraff. The letter was copied to the Development officer, District Secretariat, Vavuniya N. Mohamad Ashraff and HQI, Horowpathana Police Station.
