Total COVID-19 cases rise to 197 with 7 new patients today

Seven new COVID-19 cases were reported this morning, causing a sudden increase in the total count of confirmed cases in the country from 190 to 197, even though zero cases were reported yesterday.

This brings the total active cases to 136 and of the patients currently receiving treatment, 86 are at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID), 27 are at the Colombo East Base Hospital, 17 are at the Welikanda Base Hospital, and six are in the process of being sent to a treatment centre.

The latest situation report by the Epidemiology Unit shows that of the 197 confirmed cases, 45 are from the Colombo District, 34 are from Puttalam, 27 are from Kalutara, and 22 are from Gampaha.

Four patients from the NIID were also discharged with the 24-hour period ending at 10 a.m. today, bringing the total recoveries in the country to 54. As per the report, 165 suspect patients are currently hospitalised, a significant drop from the 224 suspect patients mentioned in yesterday’s report.

Of the hospitalised suspect patients, the Sri Jayewardenepura Teaching Hospital, Homagama Base Hospital, and Welikanda Base Hospital have 19 suspect patients each, while the Ratnapura Teaching Hospital has 18 suspect patients and the Kalubowila Teaching Hospital has 13 suspect patients
