Three more recoveries bring total to 187

Three recoveries today have brought the total count to 187, while 523 persons continue to receive treatment for COVID-19.

The new recoveries bring the total number recorded since 10 a.m. yesterday to five, all of whom were discharged from the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID). While no new COVID-19 deaths have been recorded and the number stands at seven, the latest situation report by the Epidemiology Unit shows that one medico-legal examination is in progress.

In addition to this, the number of active patients is 523, with no new patients recorded today and 13 reported since yesterday morning. Of these, 12 were identified through active surveillance in the community and only one was identified through hospital samples collected during admission with clinical signs.

According to the report, 134 patients are receiving treatment at the Navy Hospital, 117 at the NIID, 81 at the Colombo East Base Hospital, 60 at the Homagama Base Hospital, 59 at the Kathankudi Base Hospital, 54 at the Welikanda Base Hospital, and 17 at the Iranawila Hospital. One patient is in the process of being sent to a treatment facility.

This brings the number of patients identified since 22 April to 407, of which 324 were Navy personnel and their close contacts.

The report shows that 277 of the 718 confirmed cases in the country were identified from the Welisara Naval Base and 25 were identified from the Rangala Naval Base. Ten Army personnel and one Air Force personnel were also among the confirmed cases.

Among those who tested positive at the quarantine centres, 41 were overseas arrivals and 63 from local communities.
