SL National Cricket Team continues COVID-19 fight

The Sri Lanka National Cricket Team, continuing its support in helping tackle the COVID-19 pandemic, has given financial assistance to the Homagama Base Hospital.

The money is expected to go towards purchasing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the hospital’s healthcare staff, stated an SLC media release.

“The National Team led by Skipper Dimuth Karunaratne made this donation following a request made by the Hospital, which is operating as a treatment Center for COVID-19 suspected patients,” stated the release.

“According to the hospital, the Personal Protective Equipment will be used by the health staff directly in contact with the suspected COVID-19 patients.”

The donation was handed over to Medical Superintendent of the Homagama Base Hospital Dr. Janitha Hettiarachchi by the National Team Captain Dimuth Karunaratne.

“It is our duty as sports personalities to come forward at this moment of time to help the country, which needs contribution from every corner to fight out this deadly virus,” said Karunaratne.

Last week the National Team had made a financial donation to the Colombo General Hospital to help buy video laryngoscopes, while Sri Lanka Cricket had announced early last week that it had donated Rs. 25 million towards a COVID-19 fund.

Several Sri Lanka cricketers have also taken to social media to encourage their followers to undertake social distancing and other hygiene and safety-related measures.
