SJB protests to Elections Commission

The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) led by former Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa complained to the Elections Commission (EC) today regarding SLPP national list candidate Prof. Charitha Herath.

SJB General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara wrote to EC Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya, pointing out that Prof. Charitha Herath has not relinquished his post at the Peradeniya University in spite of his name being on the nominations list from the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) for the upcoming General Elections.

Bandara also pointed out that Herath has been appointed as the media coordinator for a Presidential Task Force on COVID-19. "He is abusing the position to benefit his party in the upcoming elections and use it to promote the party," Bandara charged.

The SJB General Secretary requests the EC to correct the situation as the matter is now in the public domain.
