The Australian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka David  Holly has addressed a letter to the parents of Sri Lankan students currently in Australia, detailing the changes to temporary visa holder arrangements during the corona crisis, in order to protect the health and livelihoods of the community, support crucial industries and assist with the rapid recovery, post COVID-19.

“The Australian Government knows the impact of COVID-19 on international students in Australia. Accordingly, these changes include increased flexibility of several regulations to make it easier for international students to continue their studies in Australia, should they wish to do so. The government will be flexible in cases where the coronavirus has prevented international students meeting their visa conditions, such as not being able to attend classes.

“Students are encouraged to rely on family support, part time jobs where available and their own finances to sustain themselves in Australia. Students who have been in Australia for more than 12 months and find themselves in financial hardships, will be able to access their Australian superannuation,” the High Commissioner said.
