Police net 2,400 curfew violators

The Police today continued to net curfew violators, with the total number of arrests since 20 March reaching 2,405 individuals. Police also seized 646 vehicles used by the the offenders.

According to the Police, most of the offenders were arrested for idling on the streets during the curfew. Some were arrested for disorderly behaviour and drunkenness while some were taken into custody for engaging in organised sport activity, even after COVID-19 public heath regulations prohibited such gatherings.

Legal action against the suspects will be taken by respective Police stations which charged them, the Police said.
