Pensions Dept. issues grants to people unable to register for pensions

The Department of Pensions today remitted Rs. 25,000 each to those who are eligible but were unable to register for pensions by 1 February.

Director General Pensions Jagath D. Dias issuing a press release stated that many eligible pensioners were unable to register with the department to receive their pensions due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus.

Under the move, former Government employees and others who are eligible for pensions but failed to register have been paid the allowance today based on the latest pension circular issued by the department.

The said circular (4/2020[i]) has been displayed on the department’s website, the press release added.
