The Government Information Department releasing a statement on behalf of the Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Ministry said the decision had been taken to only conduct wholesale business at the fish market to reduce the number of people visiting the premises daily.
This was due to a fish monger from Piliyandala, who had tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday, visiting the fish market on Sunday.
People who had conducted business at the fish market would be subjected to testing before the market is reopened to retail sales, Peliyagoda Fish Market Traders’ Association Chairman Jayasuriya Wickramarachchi said.
The entire market will also be disinfected before business is restarted.
