The military will spearhead moving over a 1000 residents of Bandaranayake Mawatha in Colombo 12 to quarantine centres today as a precautionary measure.
According to Army Commander Lt. Gen. Shavendra Silva, 1010 persons from 242 families will be subject to quarantine procedures.
The move comes following a surge of positive COVID-19 cases in the isolated areas in Colombo 12. As of yesterday, 47 individuals from the area tested positive for the virus.
Military sources indicate that the residents may be moved to quarantine centres in Mullaitivu and Polonnaruwa, as well as other centres, owing to the large area needed to house such a large number of people at short notice.
