A total of 2,961 inmates have been released on bail by court, based on the recommendations made by the committee appointed by the President. Those released were in prison for minor offenses or for their inability to fulfil bail conditions, according to the President’s Office. The prisoners were released between 17 March and 4 April. The move is aimed at reducing congestion in prisons, as fears mount over the easy possibility of a coronavirus spread within prisons.
