The Sri Lanka Navy today brought ashore a 75-year-old German national who was suffering from cardiac disease for treatment.

On request of the MSC Magnifica’s Captain to move the ill German national for better medical attention, the Sri Lanka Navy, honouring international maritime law, effected an emergency patient transfer ashore as a humanitarian task, Navy Spokesman Lt. Cdmr. Isuru Sooriyabandara told Daily FT.

Meanwhile, the Navy was directed by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa this morning to also repatriate a Sri Lankan chef who was aboard the MSC Magnifica.

The Sri Lankan chef who was also brought ashore underwent decontamination procedures by the Navy at the Colombo Port and has been sent to the Boosa quarantine centre for a period of 21 days.

The vessel, a cruise ship, was sailing the English route from Australia to Italy.
