Due to increased usage of water and low water levels caused by dry weather, the National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB) has requested the public to be careful when using water.
In a statement issued today, the NWSDB explained that water supply will continue without interruption, but that water levels are low due to dry weather. In addition to this, due to large number of people being at home, usage has also increased. The NWSDB thus requested the public to use water with caution.
They mentioned that safety guidelines on the best way to wash hands broadcasted in media often depicts faucets left open. In addition to this, many Sinhala and Tamil New Year rituals include high usage of water.
The NWSDB requests that alternatives are used in these situations so that water can be supplied uninterrupted.
